The festive season has started at Sri Krishna Mandir, Singapore. From now till November, we have a host of festivals lined up for you. The first one is Sri Jagannatha Snana Yatra – the bathing festival of Lord Jagannatha.

This is a very special festival where Their Lordships Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra Devi are bathed in milk, yogurt, fruit juices, ghee, honey and as a consequence the Lord becomes transcendentally sick. This sickness is not to be compared with our worldly sickness. By this sickness, the Lord desires to extend His mercy to one and all. So for the following fortnight, Their Lordships will not be seen on the altar of the temple.

They come out in grandeur on the Ratha Yatra day where They parade on three gigantic chariots pulled by the devotees. With Their large merciful eyes, They shower Their glance of mercy upon one and all, thus awarding them Mukti, or liberation from the material cycle of birth and death.
